Updates from LeicaLand!
- Leica M EV1Â – The rumours become reality! I bet no-one ever expected Leica to actually make a Leica M camera with an electronic viewfinder but they’ve done it. Well done Leica! Purists will complain but the new Leica M EV1 is perfect for Leica M owners that struggle with their eyesight. I can see a lot of Leica SL3 and Q3 being dumped on the market as photographers buy the M EV1. The SL series was too big for many and the Q series is very limited because of the fixed lens. The M EV1 seems to tick all the boxes.
- Light Lens Lab 35mm f1.4 AA – It’s been a long time coming and experienced various delays but finally the Light Lens Lab remake of the famous Leica Summilux 35mm f1.4 double aspherical is here. Available to pre-order on the official Light Lens Lab website if you want one (I ordered the silver chrome version as I know it will be a big hit like their 1966 remake). I’ll make a full video reporting everything you need to know as soon as the lens arrives.
- Mandler 35mm f2 (King of Bokeh Homage) – I was very excited to test this hard to find lens. Currently the Mandler lens is difficult to source outside of China and Indonesia. I suggested they setup a global shop so hopefully in 1-2 months it will become available. The lens comes with a metal round vented hood and a rectangular hood. My metal SquareHood hood for my 28mm Elmarit paired perfectly on the Mandler lens. Watch on YouTube.
-  TTArtisan 40mm f2 AF – If you’re looking for a small and compact autofocus lens in Leica L mount take a look at this YouTube video. It’s not optically perfect but works great for female portraits if I need an autofocus lens with my Leica SL2-S.
- 7Artisans 35mm f1.4 AF – If you like modern well corrected optics with autofocus you’ll probably like this lens. It reminds me of lenses for other brands in terms of size and the extra buttons and switches. I featured it in the same YouTube video as the 40mm.

New Travel Guide eBook
Back in the “old days” Kodak actively marketed cameras for travel. If you’re reading this newsletter you likely already own a nice camera but do you take it on exciting trips to capture memorable photographs? Cameras deserve more than just sitting on a shelf.
Over the last decade I’ve completed over 500 flights so I’ve learnt what works when it comes to travelling as a photographer. I thought it was time to write the book to help others looking to get away with their camera. 62 pages split over 7 chapters including bonus tips, photos and checklists.
If you dream of organising photoshoots abroad or just feel overwhelmed by the potential stress of travel I’ve got you covered. See how I fly overseas for less than a train ride to London and start planning your next getaway the “Matt way”.
